Vágvölgyi, Csaba, Ph.D.

a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of AL specializes in microbiology and metabolomics of fungi important for the pharmaceutical, environmental protection and bioenegry industries. Dr. Vágvölgyi finished university as biologist at the University of Szeged then his R&D carrier started with extensive contribution to protoplast fusion at that time emerging technology, aiming manipulation of filamentous fungi. He earned Ph.D. by discovery of novel molecular markers that significantly furthered taxonomy and genetics of Zygomycetes fungi. He currently is the Head of the Dept. of Microbiology of the University of Szeged. In addition to tutoring, as a senior industrial microbiologist expert, he participates in number of scientific cooperation either national or international, among others he actively collaborates with Austrian, Danish and Spanish laboratories.

His broad scientific experience with filamentous fungi and yeasts is a great asset for AHL that contributes to better understanding of metabolomics of specific fungi yet unexplored in depth. The AHL and Vágvölgyi?s current R&D efforts focus on microbial genomics and process developments of bioactive drugables. Vágvölgyi?s group establishes fermentation of fungi metabolites and produces small organic molecules with advanced purification methods at gram scale, ready for pharmacological studies.
